Dua For Witr Salah – All You Need To Know

Dua For Witr Salah

Witr Salah is slightly different from the other daily Islamic prayers if you want to learn how to say the dua for witr salah

The Witr Salat can be hard to do because the Prophet Muhammad  showed us different ways to do it. This has caused people to talk about which way to pray is best.

The answer is that there isn’t just one right way to do things. If there were, there would be no dispute or talk about it. If you follow a particular school of Fiqh (Islamic law), you may pray Witr in a certain way. All schools of Fiqh are based on Sahih hadith and follow what the Quran says. No school is more suitable than the others; it’s usually just a matter of taste.

People also often think the Witr prayer is part of the Isha Salah, which is untrue. You can say the witr prayer anytime after Isha salah until sunrise.

The Importance of With Salah

A hadith from Sahih says that the Prophet said, “The witr is a duty for every Muslim.” This shows how vital Dua For Witr Salah is. [1]

For Muslims, every prayer is a chance to spend time investing in their connection with God. As kids, we might have seen prayers as a chore or a task. But if we change our view and take the time to understand why we pray, we might be more disciplined and regular in our prayers.

The Quran tells us that prayer can help us gain sabr (patience), that it is a spiritual act that makes a believer’s heart calm, and that it is a way to clean ourselves:

Those of you who believe should wait and pray for help. Without a doubt, Allah is with the sick.

2:153

“Those who have believed and whose hearts are calm because they remember Allah.” No doubt, remembering Allah makes people safe.

13:28

“Read out loud, O Muhammad, what the Book has shown you, and start praying.” Yes, prayer does stop people from being evil and doing wrong, and remembering Allah is even better. “And Allah knows everything you do.”

29:45

How Many Rakats Are in Witr?

Most jurists agree that the Dua For Witr Salah should be done in an odd number of rakats. It could be three, five, seven, or even nine. Three rakats are the most popular way to pray for Witr, and there are two ways to do this.

  1. The first way is to pray three rakats without sitting down for the second one.
  2. You can pray two rakats for Eid with tashadud and tasleem. Then do one more rakat with tashadud and tasleem.

As the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught, you should pray two at a time and end Witr with one rakah, making an odd number of rakats. Another report says the Prophet prayed five, seven, or even nine rakats in one salat without taslim in between.

Is Witr Wajib or Sunnah?

People have different ideas about whether Witr Salat is required.

  • Wajib: You are responsible for missing the prayer if you don’t do it. A missed Fardh prayer would be worse, though.
  • Sunnah: Also known as the Prophet’s actions. There are two kinds here: Muakkadah, which is the kind that Rasulullah did all the time (for example, the Eid prayer), and Ghair Muakkadah, which is the kind that the Prophet sometimes skipped.

According to Imam Abu Hanifah, the Witr Salat is a must. The other three imams believe that this prayer is Sunnah Al-Muakkadah because of a hadith that says it is not required.

How to Pray Witr ( Step-by-step)

We are now ready to start our prayer after reviewing what we need to do before Salah. We will show you what offering three rakat witr prayers looks like.

  1. Make sure you have the proper purpose when you pray salatul witr and choose how many rakat you will offer. Even though you don’t have to say this, here it is:
  2.  As you would in any other fardh prayer, say the first two rakats. We talk about this in our guide on how to learn salah. Read Surah Fatihah, a few lines from the Qur’an, and then say “Allahu Akbar” as the third part of the Rakat of Witr prayer. You shouldn’t go down for Ruku. Instead, bring your hands up to your ears and then back down to your chest.
  3. Saying the witr dua, also called qunoot or dua-e-qunoot, is a Sunnah. There are two known variations, and either one is fine.

Meaning: O Allah, lead me among those You have led, forgive me among those You have forgiven, make friends with those You have made friends with, bless me with what You have given me, and keep me safe from the bad things You planned. You make the rules, and no one else can do the same. No one can make rules against You, and no one is ashamed of being friends with You. Bless you, our Lord and Exalted One.

Most people say the above dua for Witr, but Hanafis usually say the form below.

Meaning: Dear God! We ask for help and ask for forgiveness. All of us believe in and trust you and praise you in the best way we know how. We thank you and are grateful to you, and we leave the person who disobeys you and doesn’t follow you. Dear God! We pray to you and fall on our knees in front of you. Rush toward you and serve you. We hope you will forgive us and fear your punishment. Indeed, the people who don’t believe will suffer your pain.

If you want to do what the Prophet did, you can say the above Witr duas. But you don’t have to do this. If you find it hard to learn the ones above, you can use any dua instead. Atina fid dunya dua is a simpler one to start with. However, according to Sunnah, you should do Witr to get the most benefits. This means making the time to learn the qunut dua by heart.

The Bottom Line

A beautiful way to worship Allah that helps us ask for His help and gifts is the Dua For Witr Salah. You can improve your spiritual journey and get closer to God by learning how to say the powerful dua-e-Qunoot and properly do Witr prayer. Remember that if you want to have a better relationship with Allah, you need to be consistent and honest.
